A browser cannot tell which desktop shortcut you pressed. If no image appears, return to the screenshot tool and confirm that the image was copied. You can also paste directly into a compatible message or document without making another file.
Where do I find my screenshots?
Current GNOME stores screenshots in Pictures → Screenshots and copies the image to the clipboard. With Spectacle, inspect Save or Save As and its configured save location. Why does Print do nothing?
Check your desktop keyboard shortcut settings for screenshot actions. A compact keyboard may require Fn. A remote session can intercept the key, so try launching the screenshot utility inside the intended session.
Why does pasting insert a file path?
The tool may have copied the filename or location instead of the image. In Spectacle choose the image clipboard action, then paste again before copying other text.
Can I capture a menu that disappears?
If your screenshot utility offers a delay, set it before opening the menu. Confirm the capture mode and save location so the delayed result is easy to find.
Why is the capture blank or blocked?
Protected content or session restrictions can limit capture. Test an ordinary desktop window and consult your desktop documentation. Use the application’s own export feature when available.
How to screenshot on Linux: before you share
Open the image at a readable size and check its edges. Keep enough surrounding context for the recipient to understand the problem, while removing anything unrelated. A short message explaining what to look at is often more helpful than several extra captures.
